The Lamborghini Gallardo GTR
A one-of-a-kind Lamborghini Gallardo GTR race car will be shown at this year’s SEMA Auto Show in Las Vegas by former NFL Houston Oiler quarterback Dan Postorini, who plans to use the event to garner sponsorship for his DP7 Racing team. Postorini also plans to race the car at next year’s SCCA SPEED World Cup Challenge Series and has already assembled a group of racing professionals from NASCAR, Indy Car, and the NHRA. The Lamborghini Gallardo GTR has been built to SCCA World Challenge GT specs, and while it uses a 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo as a base some rather significant changes have been made to make it suitable for motorsport use. While the standard Lamborghini Gallardo runs an all-wheel-drive system, the Gallardo GTR has been converted into a rear-wheel-drive format, and power has also been boosted from the standard model’s 520hp (388kW) to around 570hp, developing at 7,800rpm. An even bigger boost can be found in the Gallardo GTR’s torque figure, which rises to an impressive 450lb-ft of torque (597Nm) from the standard model’s 376lb-ft of torque. In addition to more power, the Gallardo GTR has also been put on a diet to give it a kerb weight of just 2,800lbs – 353lbs less than the standard Gallardo’s 3,153lb mass. Racing tires and brakes are also in use to match the increase in power. Modifications include the addition of a new ram air intake system, Hedman Hustler Hedders exhaust, Motec ECU, Hollinger sequential six-speed dog engagement gearbox with a triple-disc clutch, aluminum and carbon-fiber body panels, and an adjustable suspension system.
