Introducing PORSCHE 918 Spyder. This special high performance hybrid model is a prototype announced at Geneve motorshow the other day. This car is a extreme answer from Porsche on this era of aiming symbiotic relationship of environment and motor cars, and realizing incredible reflexes, fuel efficiency and low carbon footprint. The combination of 3.4L RS spyder based racing unit and 7 speed 2 pedal PDK transmission performing faster lap record time than Carrera GT at old course of Nurburgring. Powertrain system is a 4WD which motor driving front and engine driving rear. This weight reduced 918 Spyder which only weighs 1490kg receiving benefit from carbon monocoque chassis, accelerates 0-100km/h in 3.2seconds, and reaching max speed of over 320km/h. PORSCHE 917といえばスティーブ・マックイーン主演『栄光のル・マン』のGulfカラーの917Kが有名ですね。その917がデビューから40周年を向かえたそうで、ヒストリーのある名車たちは新しいポルシェミュージアムに展示されています。ル・マン24時間レースでは1970年と1971年に総合優勝しています。数々の耐久レースで大活躍した結果レギュレーション変更により現役から退く形になったのは強すぎたからでしょう。その性能は驚くほど高く0-100ｋｍ加速は2.5秒、最高速は409ｋｍというモンスターマシンでした。このマシンのハイライトは美しいボディデザインだと思います♪

Celebrating the 917’s 40th anniversary, historical greats are displayed in new Porsche museum. Like winning overall in Le Mans 24hrs in 1970 and 1971, this car might have been too strong that dominated so many endurance races, which resulted regulation changes, and retirement from racing scene.
